Barbados has recorded its third fire fatality for the year. Dead is Doreen Dawe of Licorish Village, My Lord's Hill, St. Michael. The 78-year-old woman died in a house fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Barbados Fire Service received a call around 2:36 a.m. and fire officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. On arrival the stone and timber house was found to be completely engulfed in flames.
Eight firefighters and two Station Officers under the command of acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Eric Rice responded and valiantly fought the fire before it was finally extinguished. Two fire tenders from Fire Service headquarters were utilised during the operation.
